We have BIG plans.
How big?
One Billion Dollars Big.
The original Spokane Reimagined proposal was a $1 billion dollar transportation and accessibility levy. Since that proposal was published in 2023, there have been many changes in Spokane and we have adjusted our tactics to meet the moment.
We worked with the Spokane City Council to draft and pass the Janet Mann ‘Safe Streets Now!’ resolution in 2024, which directed the city to adopt an adaptive traffic control program. Adaptive measures include temporary installations like jersey barriers, curb stops, and concrete planter boxes.
Spokane has over 2,200 linear miles of streets. Spokane Reimagined advocates for returning just a portion of those streets to the city’s residents.
We aim to create Spokane’s People Powered Highways (PPH), a citywide grid of safe, clean, pedestrianized streets that are accessible 365 days a year.
The PPH proposal was the catalyst for Spokane’s 27 by 2027 Urban Mobility Network.
We want to install an additional 20 staffed public restrooms along the over 140 miles of PPH, each with a family restroom, drinking fountain, and emergency phone.
When we’ve repurposed streets for people, that’s real estate we can use for more productive uses.
Our goal is for every house in the city to be walking distance to a high-quality half court, fountain, and some sort of gathering place or pavilion.
Speaking of free real estate, we also propose creation of the Spokane Streetcar, a 13.5 mile network of lines connecting Spokane’s densest residential areas to shopping, entertainment, and major employment centers.
We advocate for a city-owned and operated bike share system with traditional bicycles, e-bikes, and cargo bikes. This would include capital and operations costs.
For neighborhoods not covered by the PPH, we aim to create protected pedestrian and cycle paths, crossings, and other safety improvements.
